Chair, Organizing Committee

2026 APACCM Congress on Critical Care

Greetings to all!

Welcome to Manila, Philippines!

It is a profound privilege to head the organizing committee of the 2026 Asia Pacific Association of Critical Care Medicine (APACCM) Congress on Critical Care to be held here in Manila, Philippines on November 4-6, 2026. This is in collaboration with the Philippine Society of Critical Care Medicine (PSCCM) and the Society of Pediatric Critical Care Philippines (SPCCP). The Philippines is truly blessed with wonderful and beautiful people. I want to extend my sincere gratitude to our Congress president, Dr. Ma. Encarnita B. Limpin and all the members of each committee of the local congress for their commitment and devotion to make this congress a success.

The theme of the 2026 Congress on Critical Care is” One Size Fits None: Dynamic World of Individualized Critical Care”. Scientific lectures were prepared to tackle the different issues and concerns on critical care medicine with the interest on individualized management strategies. Not one critically ill patient is the same. There are evolving challenges on each critically ill patient and we should provide each of them with concrete solutions to overcome their infirmities. I would like to express my sincere thanks to all our congress speakers for inspiring us and providing us with their knowledge and expertise in critical care medicine.

It is truly a pleasure to invite all critical care and allied care professionals, and all personnel who are interested in critical care medicine all over the Asia Pacific region and the whole world, to be a part of this noteworthy endeavor, all for the good of our critically ill patients.

God bless us always.

2026 Critical Care Congress Manila, Philippines

A very warm welcome to this year’s Asia Pacific Association of Critical Care Medicine 2026 Critical Care Congress in Manila, Philippines!

We have gathered here under a theme that is as provocative as it is necessary: “One Size Fits None: Dynamic World of Individualized Critical Care.” For decades, the "Standard of Care" has been our North Star. We built protocols, followed algorithms, and leaned on the "average" patient data to guide our hands. But as anyone who has stood at a bedside at 3:00 AM knows, the "average" patient is a ghost—a statistical myth that rarely survives the reality of a complex, multi-system disease.

In critical care, a "one-size-fits-all" approach isn't just a stylistic mismatch; it can be a clinical hazard. Whether it’s fluid resuscitation, ventilator settings, or antimicrobial dosing, the physiology of a 20-year-old athlete differs fundamentally from an 80-year-old with multiple comorbidities, even if they share the same diagnosis.

The move toward individualized care is driven by three core realizations:

Biological Diversity: Genomics, proteomics, and the microbiome mean that two patients with the same "disease" may require diametrically opposite treatments.

Dynamic Physiology: A patient’s needs change not just day-to-day, but hour-to-hour. Individualized care is about the right intervention at the right time.

Data Integration: We now have the technology to monitor real-time data, allowing us to move from reactive protocols to proactive, preemptive, personalized strategies.

"Standardization was the floor that saved us from error; individualization is the ceiling that will lead us to excellence."

During the congress, we will not just share data; we will challenge the status quo. We will explore how to transition from "What works for most" to "What works for this specific individual human being."

It’s time to stop trying to fit our patients into the boxes of our protocols and start building our care around the unique, complex, and fragile lives they lead.

Welcome to the congress. Let’s redefine the standard of care, one individual at a time.

Mabuhay!

On behalf of the organizing committee, it is my great pleasure to welcome you to the Asia Pacific Association of Critical Care Medicine Congress 2026.

This year’s theme, “One Size Fits None, Dynamic World of Individualized Critical Care,” highlights a fundamental shift in pediatric critical care—moving beyond standardized approaches toward tailored, patient-centered and compassionate management. As we care for children with diverse conditions, unique physiologic responses, and varying social contexts, individualized care allows us to optimize outcomes while preserving dignity and quality of life.

This conference brings together experts, clinicians, and researchers across the region to share insights, innovations, and best practices. It is an opportunity not only to learn from one another, but also to strengthen collaboration in advancing pediatric critical care in our respective institutions.

May this gathering inspire meaningful discussions, foster new ideas, and ultimately enhance the care we provide to our most vulnerable patients.

Thank you. And once again, welcome. Let us turn what we learn here into care that truly makes a difference—one child at a time.
